Ceiling Fan Installation in Houston, TX
A great ceiling fan drops the perceived temperature in a Houston room by 4 to 6 degrees and lets you run the AC 2 degrees warmer for double-digit summer savings. A bad install wobbles, hums, and drips grease from a bent motor after a year. We install roughly 30 fans a month across Houston's neighborhoods with fan-rated boxes, correct blade span for your room, and a wobble-test on every job before we leave.

We install ceiling fans for Houston's long summer
Houston runs its air conditioning nine months a year. Ceiling fans are the single best way to get that bill down without sacrificing comfort. Running a fan along with the AC lets you bump the thermostat up 2 to 4 degrees while feeling exactly the same, because moving air over skin evaporates sweat and drops perceived temperature. The math says one fan at 75 degrees feels like 71 degrees with no fan. Across an 8-month cooling season, that is real money back.
The catch is that fans are heavy, moving electrical equipment, and too many of them in Houston homes are mounted to a standard pancake box that was never rated to hold 35 pounds of spinning motor. We replace non-rated boxes with listed fan-rated boxes, run a dedicated switched leg if you want wall control, balance every set of blades before leaving, and test forward/reverse plus light-kit dimmer compatibility.
- Fan-rated electrical boxes installed per NEC 314.27
- Downrod sized to ceiling height for ideal airflow
- Blade balancing kit applied on every install
- App pairing and smart-home integration on WiFi fans
How do you size a ceiling fan for the room?
29 to 36 inch - Bathrooms, Laundry, Powder Rooms
Small spaces up to 75 sq ft need a compact fan. Damp-rated models are required in bathrooms by UL listing. We match to vanity lighting so finishes coordinate.
42 to 44 inch - Secondary Bedrooms, Home Offices
Rooms between 75 and 175 sq ft. The default for kid's rooms and guest rooms. Pick a DC-motor model for whisper-quiet airflow while you sleep.
52 inch - Primary Bedrooms, Dining Rooms
Rooms from 175 to 350 sq ft. The most commonly stocked blade span in Home Depot and Lowe's for good reason. Sits 7 to 8 feet off the floor for safety and 10 to 12 inches below the ceiling for optimal air movement.
60 to 72 inch - Great Rooms, Open Family Rooms
For open-concept Houston floorplans over 350 sq ft, one large fan moves more air than two smaller ones. 60-inch fans cover 400 sq ft comfortably, 72-inch goes to 625 sq ft with the right motor.
84 to 96 inch HVLS - Shops, Barns, Outdoor Pavilions
High-volume-low-speed fans move enormous air with a slow-spinning blade. Big Ass Fans, Minka HVLS, and Aero Haus units. Popular for covered outdoor kitchens in Sugar Land and The Woodlands.
Why Choose Saul's for Fans
5-Year No-Wobble Warranty
If your fan develops wobble within 12 months of our install, we return and re-balance free. Most issues trace to an unbalanced blade, not the motor.
Fan-Rated Box Always Included
Every standard pancake or old-work box is replaced with a UL-listed fan-rated box so your motor is mounted to 50+ pounds of fastening strength, not brittle plaster.
Licensed Electrician on Wiring
New circuits, three-way switch conversions, and smart-switch retrofits done by a licensed journeyman electrician on our staff.
Here are the fan types we install in Houston
Indoor, outdoor, smart, and low-profile. We match the fan type to the room conditions so it lasts.
- 01
Indoor Standard Fans
AC-motor and DC-motor models with 5 blades, 3 blades, or winglet rotors. Integrated LED light kits, pull-chain or remote, glass or antique-brass accents.
- 02
Damp-Rated Outdoor Fans
Essential for Houston's covered patios and screened porches. UL-listed for moisture from humid air, rain spray, and lawn watering overspray without motor corrosion.
- 03
Wet-Rated Patio Fans
One step above damp-rated. Can handle direct rain and is the right pick for uncovered pergolas, open decks, and pool houses where weather hits the motor directly.
- 04
Smart WiFi Fans
Hunter SIMPLEconnect, Haiku SenseME, Modern Forms, and Big Ass Fans i6. Alexa, Google Home, and Apple HomeKit pairing. Auto-speed based on room temperature.
- 05
Low-Profile Hugger Fans
For ceilings under 8 feet, flush-mount hugger fans mount tight to the ceiling with no downrod. Slightly less airflow than standard mount, but required for safe 7-foot blade clearance.
- 06
Sloped Ceiling Fans
Angled mount kits for cathedral and sloped ceilings up to 45 degrees. Common in The Woodlands and Memorial homes with vaulted living rooms and master bedrooms.
Is it time to add or replace a fan?
Your Fan Wobbles or Hums
A wobble past 1/4 inch at blade tip means unbalanced blades, loose mounting, or a worn motor bushing. Humming often means the capacitor is dying. Both are warning shots before the motor quits mid-summer.
AC Bills Running High
Ceiling fans do not cool the air, they make people feel cooler. A properly sized fan in each main room lets you raise the thermostat 2 to 4 degrees with no comfort loss. In Houston's 8-month cooling season, that is 5 to 15% off your electric bill.
Builder-Grade Fans From the 1990s
Original developer fans in Pearland, Katy, and Cypress homes typically used AC motors with 3-speed capacitors. Swapping to a DC motor model cuts energy use 70% and noise by more than half.
You Added a Patio or Sunroom
New covered outdoor living space on your Houston home needs a damp-rated fan immediately. Without one the space is unusable from June through September. Pair the install with our outdoor living build.

Questions homeowners ask about ceiling fan installation
Can I use my existing light fixture box for a new fan?
Only if it is stamped "listed for fan support." Standard light-fixture boxes are rated to hold a few pounds of light, not 25 to 50 pounds of spinning fan. We almost always swap the box to a UL-listed fan-rated unit that anchors directly to the joist or spans between joists with a listed brace bar.
Do you install ceiling fans on covered patios?
Yes, and they are one of the most-requested installs in Houston. Covered patios need UL damp-rated fans minimum. Pergolas or screened porches directly exposed to rain need UL wet-rated fans. We carry both and will recommend the right one for your outdoor area based on the roof coverage.
How do I pick the right blade size?
Measure the length and width of the room. A 12x12 bedroom needs a 42 to 44 inch fan. A 14x16 primary bedroom or dining room wants 52 inch. Great rooms over 18x20 need 60 to 72 inch. We can spec based on a quick room photo or a walk-through if you are unsure.
Do ceiling fans really save money?
Yes, if you use them correctly. A fan cools people, not rooms, so turn it off when you leave. Run counter-clockwise (summer) to push air down and create a breeze. In winter, flip the motor switch to clockwise at low speed to pull cool air up and push warm air along the ceiling down the walls. Typical Houston household saves 8 to 15% on cooling bills when fans are used with raised thermostat settings.
What if my room has no fan wiring at all?
We can pull new wiring from an adjacent switched outlet or from the panel, cut in a fan-rated box, and patch the drywall or ceiling around it. This adds about half a day of labor and a drywall touch-up visit. It is commonly paired with our drywall repair service on the same dispatch.
Can you pair fans with smart-home systems?
Yes. Hunter SIMPLEconnect, Haiku, Minka Aire WiFi, and Modern Forms fans all pair with Alexa, Google Home, and Apple HomeKit. We set up the app, connect to your WiFi, and confirm voice control works before leaving. Lutron Caseta and Leviton Decora Smart dimmers can also control non-smart fans.
What brands do you recommend?
For value we install a lot of Hunter, Hampton Bay, and Harbor Breeze. For mid-tier performance and quieter DC motors, Minka-Aire and Kichler. For premium and smart-home integration, Haiku, Modern Forms, and Big Ass Fans. We can install any UL-listed brand you bring or source at trade pricing.
